Picture this: my little one hit a rough patch last week with a serious bout of diarrhoea, and along came the dreaded sore bum. Dealing with this is a bit different from adult female personal hygiene. In a moment of desperation, I stumbled upon the idea of medicial lambskin wool pads. And guess what? The star of the show was none other than lanolin – yes, the same stuff we use for our nipples when they’re sore from breastfeeding !

I’ve now learned in more detail: Lanolin is a natural substance extracted from sheep’s wool, renowned for its moisturising properties. Because it is rich in fatty acids and waxy compounds, lanolin forms a protective barrier on the skin’s surface. It’s similar in its make up to sebum, our skin’s natural moisturising oil. This helps to lock in moisture, prevent dehydration and promote skin healing. That’s what makes lanolin effective for soothing sore and irritated skin – wherever it might be on your or your baby’s body!

Did you know about this? Because I certainly didn’t!  But I’m so glad that I stumbled upon this secret weapon hidden in plain sight.

Long story short, lanolin worked wonders, much better than nappy creams I had. I was amazed at how quickly the soreness cleared up. The magic happened – that waxy goodness created a protective cocoon, and soothed bubba’s irritated skin within a day or so.

So, there you have it – If your little one’s dealing with a sore bum, maybe did out the nipple cream and give lanolin a shot. No fancy sales pitch here, just a parent passing on a nugget of wisdom I wish I’d known sooner! Here’s to the power of unexpected remedies and happy baby bums!
