Take a Moment: Mini Mindfulness Meditation

2–3 minutes

Advent Calendar – 19 December

Life as a parent can feel like a constant whirlwind. Between the endless to-do lists, work commitments, nursery pick-ups, and everything else that needs your attention, it can be hard to catch your breath. If you’re anythinhg like me, you often feel rushed, tired, and constantly giving to everyone else.

That’s why, for today in my advent calendar, I’m giving you permission to take a moment for yourself.

Take a deep breath. Pause for a second. Whether you’re reading this on your lunch break, while your baby’s napping, or after having wrestled your toddler to bed, this time is for you.

Here’s a simple video: a single candle flame flickering gently. Let it be something to focus on to help slow your thoughts and steady your breathing.

Your Steps to Calm:

  1. Find a quiet spot. Somewhere you can sit comfortably for a moment without distractions.
  2. Focus on the candle’s dancing flame. Watch its gentle movement and let it hold your attention.
  3. Breathe in and out slowly. Let each breath bring calm as you settle into the moment.
  4. Repeat these mantras to yourself as you breathe:
    • “I am enough. I do enough. I am not alone.”
    • “As long as there is love, everything will be OK.”
    • “I am sharing joy, love, and energy.”

As you watch the flame, take a moment to imagine other parents, just like you, watching the same candle flicker. They might be in a different home, a different city, or even a different country, but they’re also pausing, breathing, and taking a moment of calm.

Feel that shared energy—a quiet connection between people who understand the same joys, stresses, and tired moments of parenting. Let it remind you that you’re not alone.

Whatever stress you’re carrying, let it ease—just for a moment. You don’t have to fix everything right now. You’re doing your best, and that’s enough.

When you’re ready, take that sense of calm with you. Life will carry on, but you’ve given yourself this small pause, and that matters.

Be kind to yourself. You’re doing a great job. 💕✨💞🌟
