Advent Calendar – 15 December
Ah, Christmas – the most wonderful time of the year… unless you’re trying to get a baby to nap, wrap presents, and get your house ready for the big day!
This is only my second Christmas as a mum, and I’m quite excited about it. Last year, Little Bean was too young to really understand or join in the fun. Now, she might still not fully grasp everything, but she’s definitely excited about opening presents, seeing her grandparents, playing with her new toys, and hanging out with her cousin.
Still, all the things we need to think of is like my mental load on steroids! 😅 But one thing that helps me stay in the Christmas mood is singing all those good old, over-played Christmas bangers. Whether it’s Wham!’s classic or the memories of Christmas choir concerts at school, singing just makes everything feel a little bit easier and more festive.
And since having a baby, I’ve found myself making up song lyrics about any old nonsense, just to keep her (and myself) entertained. So, I thought I could share this dubious joy with you! Let’s have a bit of festive fun with parenting twists on classic Christmas songs! 🎄🎶😆🎤
Here’s my take on “Jingle Bells”, the Parent Edition:
Jingle Bells, nappies smell,
There’s washing to be done,
Baby needs to have a nap,
Oh, what Christmas fun!
Jingle bells, nappies smell,
Daddy needs a sleep,
Mummy wants a cup of tea,
And baby wrecks the tree!
And here’s another December favourite:
Deck the halls with tinsel shining,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la,
Tree is up, but toddler’s whining,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Now it’s your turn!
Can you make up your own version of a Christmas classic? Whether it’s about the pile of presents, the fun of family decorating, or just everyday family life at Christmas, I want to hear your funny, creative lyrics! 🎶🎉
Pop your new versions of songs in the comments: Don’t be shy—let’s get creative! 🎄🎶😆🎤
Need a little inspiration?
Here are a couple of lines to help get your brain in the Christmas spirit:
The 12 Days of Christmas (To-Do List Edition)
🎄 On the first day of Christmas, my to-do list gave to me,
A mountain of presents to wrap!
🎄 On the second day of Christmas, my to-do list gave to me,
Two toddler tantrums,
And a mountain of presents to wrap!
🎶 … keep it going!!
Join in on the fun and let’s see who can create the most festive and funny Christmas tune. Whether it’s silly, heartwarming, or totally chaotic – just like the songs, I’m guessing that Christmas with a toddler will not be quite what we expect… but memorable nonetheless! 😆😍🎅
